Most importantly, you will make friends and become a member of our growing outdoor racquetball family.
IT'S ABOUT PLAYING AND HAVING FUN
New To The Game? No Problem
We were all new to racquetball at some point. There’s a lot to learn about the rules and strategy even when a player is a skilled indoor player. Outdoor is just different. Fortunately, our Stratton Woods players are patient, supportive, and willing to help newbies and experienced indoor players excel in 1-wall and 3-wall racquetball.

About Us
We started as small groups of players when the courts opened, and during the Covid pandemic, we became one, united outdoor racquetball family. As we became closer, one theme became clear – our commitment to inclusivity! Our community includes players from multiple states, everyone is welcome. We love competition. We are fierce competitors, and what happens on the court stays on the court. At the end of the game, we laugh, joke, dance (yes, dance) and enjoy our family vibe. That is the Stratton Woods way, we love celebrating life and outdoor racquetball, together.
We play racquetball... a lot of racquetball.

What Players Say About SW
It was always my vision to have a facility like Stratton Woods in Northern Virginia. I am so happy that I could make it happen so that handballers, racquetballers, and paddleballers did not have to travel long distances to play the outdoor game. We were also pleased to be able to provide a lighted facility so that we can play into the evening, Stratton Woods Park provides a full family recreational experience also with a playground, tennis courts, baseball diamonds and a rectangular field for soccer, football, and lacrosse, sand volleyball, basketball, and a full trail network that connects to the Gerry Connolly Cross County Trail system. This park will bring many years of enjoyment to all of the community.
Karen and I began playing outdoor racquetball last summer because Covid closed the indoor courts. We love the courts, the people, and both one wall and three wall racquetball. We even moved to Herndon, from Alexandria, to get closer to the courts. Nothing beats outdoor racquetball on a nice day.
Outdoor RB is a fun, fitness activity that can be played and enjoyed by all skill levels. and ages of participants. The courts, thanks to Fairax Parks & Rec, are easily accessible at SW in Reston, VA. A diverse group of regular players can be found on most nice weather days throughout the year, and they are happy to welcome new players who want to try outdoor RB. It's free to play, all you need is racquet, ball, and eye protection.
Stratton Woods is an example of how to build an ideal facility and create an outdoor community from scratch, and is a roadmap for how we can build the outdoor game going forward. Bill Bouie’s leadership and vision led to the creation of a fantastic structure, and the DC-area passionate racquetball fans did the rest. Today, Stratton Woods houses a thriving handball and racquetball community and the courts are filled for hours every night and all weekend. I’m personally an infrequent player, but the long-wall courts are a great way to transition to outdoor for indoor players and the one-wall courts are becoming more and more popular amongst the Stratton Woods die-hards. I look forward to my next trip up to play with the Stratton Woods crew.
To be able to play long wall and one wall makes Stratton Woods a unique asset to our outdoor racquetball community. The park is amazing along with the players that support racquetball. Always a great time!
Summer of 2021 was my first time coming to Statton Woods and playing at these courts; needless to say, I was hooked! From the family-like atmosphere to the great battles on the court, I returned home to NJ exhausted from playing so much but happy to return to the next tournament. Looking forward to the next tournament.
The courts at Stratton Woods Park helped the racquetball community in the DMV area and beyond keep racquetball alive during the pandemic. The fun, camaraderie, competitiveness and social aspects were all on display for players and surrounding community. Continued use of the courts will help the sport grow.
Stratton Woods is more than just a beautiful outdoor racquetball facility, it's a welcoming, fun and friendly place where you will feel right at home and will be able to play as much Racquetball as you want' regardless of your skill level.
Strong competition. Challenging workout. Camaraderie. Gorgeous outdoor setting. All of those things and more come with joining our outdoor racquetball family at SW. And make no mistake - it is very much like family. Cookouts, birthday celebrations, impromptu dinners and social get-togethers. And maybe the occasional disagreement or dispute, followed by friendly handshake and apology - again, just like family. Children and dogs are regular attendees as well. I count my racquetball family as another significant blessing my life!
In 2020, many indoor players started playing more outdoor racquetball because it was deemed safer. That's when Stratton Woods really became very popular and remains so now. If the weather is nice, on any given weekend you can find 20 or 30 players out there competing and having fun. We have had countless racquetball cookouts where everyone had a great time. I love our racquetball family at Stratton Woods.
Stratton Woods is an awesome place. Since being done with lacrosse and not having a sports outlet, sw has been my new home. Even when I was just learning how to play everyone was so nice and teaching me and giving great games. Highly recommend for any and all players regardless of skills level.
I participate in every outdoor event at Stratton Woods throughout the year. There's something about the atmosphere, and being able to play outside - rather than inside four walls - that is so enjoyable, win or lose. Being able to visit my racquetball family and compete against some of the best players in the world makes it well worth the trip from PA every time!
Stratton Woods is a racquetball community that prioritizes fun and enjoyment. Everyone is welcome and treated with respect. There are several levels of play and you will always feel you are part of a family.
I have been playing indoor racquetball for many years and in the recent few years, I have found a new love for outdoor racquetball. I have so much fun playing outdoor racquetball, and just hanging out with the other players. The Stratton Woods racquetball group is a community, a family, with great people, great games, and a lot of fun on and off the courts. I really love the bar-b-ques, tournaments, and parties that's thrown at Statton Woods!
I wasn't really into playing outdoor racquetball much at first. But then, I got a chance to socialize, make new friends, and it became a daily thing and an opportunity to walk my dog & play racquetball at the same time. This community has grown close, inclusive, and welcoming of everyone and everyone seems to enjoy their time playing whether it's 1wall or 3wall.
I like the good exercise and camaraderie in a nice location. I also love every precious puppy dog.

Ever since my first visit, the community at Stratton Woods racquetball has been fun and exciting. Everyone is so nice and supportive. They enjoy having a good time whether they’re playing or partying. There's definitely a lot of celebrations or reasons to get together. Im always entertained, especially when people bring their dogs. I'm glad to be a part of the fun-loving group.
I went to a random park to drill by myself during the pandemic, not knowing I'd make so many friends, attend so many barbeques, and hear so many bad jokes.
My name is Guillermo Castellon and have been playing at Stratton Woods for more than 2 years. I enjoy the venue and the game but most importantly the people. Even our pets enjoy going!
Its a great set of courts with long wall three wall and one wall courts on the backside. Friendly group of players always looking to have fun and play some games. Come out and join in on the fun anytime.
When covid kept me out of a lot of indoor racquetball play, I was invited to Stratton Woods to learn 3Wall and 1Wall. I will always be thankful. It expanded my game and gave me another way to get exercise, play with friends, and grow my racquetball skills.
I remember years ago hearing about outdoor racquetball courts opening in Herndon at SW Park. I had only played a few times and I wasn't really very and couldn't grasp the transition from indoor to outdoor. Over the years I have become part of a wonderful Racquetball family at SW. We have a lot of great get together, cook outs, music, and celebrate birthdays. The park itself is a great setting with baseball, tennis and beach volleyball courts. It's also great to see all the local folks walking their dogs and everyone seem really happy. I look forward to coming to SW not just for racquetball but spending quality time with my racquetball family.
Covid took away a part of my life as I didn't play racquetball for more than a year, after playing regularly for me than a decade. However I started playing at SW in Spring 2021 and was able to regain some sense of normalcy. One of a my favorite things about racquetball at SW is that it's free and welcoming for all comers so there's a much larger base of players than at my local gym. So come on out to SW park where beatdowns are handed out on a daily basis.
I was a regular indoor player and never gave much thought to outdoor racquetball. When the indoor facilities closed for the pandemic, I decided to give outdoor a try. Fortunately, SW is a local outdoor facility. I already knew many of the players and the ones I didn't know were friendly and welcoming. Outdoor RB is incredibly fun and challenging. It's very different from indoor but the fundamental skills transfer quickly to outdoor. I doubt there is any place in the country as fun and welcoming to go play. Everyone feels like family. We regularly have cookouts and birthday celebrations at the park, so it's much more fun than just the racquetball. It's no surprise we regularly get numerous players from out of state for tournaments, and sometimes they just show up to play the pickup games. If you are an experienced player or new to the sport, this is a great place to get started.
I've been playing outdoor for a few years now. Stratton Woods Park has been a great place to play both 1 wall and 3 wall and a variety of levels playing makes for fun for everyone! It's my outdoor home and I love it!
I have been a part of the Stratton Woods Racquetball community for a short period of time. It is an awesome place to learn different aspects of the sport of racquetball. You can try your hand at one-wall as well as three-wall racquetball. Both are fun and challenging. All levels of play. Lots of food and fun on any given day. Stratton Woods is a great place to bring your kids. Plenty of space to run around, lots of green space. Very well maintained. Free parking!
Been playing for 40+ years and have won my share of tournaments, but during the warm months, I always struggled to balance outdoors and getting to the gym. SW Racquetball has been a game changer. Day or night under the lights, you're always able to find a game, and wherever you look, there are Elite+ level skilled players, so the games are always fun and competitive. To think, I only found SW because of Covid and the gyms being shut down. Awesome!!
I attended a SW tournament for the first time in June 2021 and had a great time! Everyone was so friendly and welcoming, more like a family-type atmosphere, and the competition was great! I had so much fun that I came back again in August for another tournament. Coming from NJ, it was less than a 4-hour drive and was a perfect weekend getaway to play some outdoor racquetball. I can't wait to be back next summer.
